Weekly Wrap-up

This week both Birdy and Sam worked with clay.  It was red clay, the super messy type.  My entire sink has a fine red film on it now. :-)

It took Birdy a few days to get used to working with it.  Her assignment was to make a landscape that included prairie land, hills and mountains. The challenge for her was actually working the clay in a more natural way.  She wanted to stick pieces together instead of sculpting it into her finished piece.

Sammy's assignment was to make something useful, like a bowl or cup.  I suggested he make a small trinket bowl.  I think he got bored very quickly and was not very interested in making it attractive at all.  It's simply a basic bowl shape but it is not smooth and he wasn't even interested in painting it.  He's still reading Johnny Tremain and working diligently on his math.  He had two basketball games this week too, which made for some crazy tag-team scheduling between mom and dad.

The big guy has finished his literature book.....it was supposed to last him through the end of the school year, in May.  I'm not sure why it hasn't.  That is ok though, it give shim more time to catch up on his novel reports, his research paper and the rest of his grammar units.  It really helped to drop the Algebra II.  He also has more time to get all his Chemistry work finished.

I just thought of this weekly wrap-up at the very last minute but I plan to give more details in the future.
